Welcome to

Muiri Carraige Aonair Teoranta

MCAT operates Ireland’s first submarines to advance scientific research and environmental conservation. We are committed to explore and understand the underwater world and collaborating to protect marine resources.

Our Mission

At MCAT, our mission is to employ cutting-edge technology for comprehensive maritime research and data collection. The A-EX1 and A-EX2 enable us for the first time to uncover the mysteries of the Irish seabed, which is 90 percent of Irish territory, and contribute to various fields of study and industry.

LET’S WORK TOGETHER!

The Atlantis Explorers

The submarines are state-of-the-art submersibles built by U-Boat Worx, designed to carry 2-3 individuals—a pilot and passengers. All the submarines are certified by the German-based DNV, the world’s leading classification society. Certification requires each individual submersible to meet stringent and extensive rules and regulations, as well as pass a range of rigorous test and trials from design to final delivery. Overseen by independent surveyors, this is an independent verification of the safety of every U-Boat Worx submersible. With a maximum depth capability of 300 meters (approximately 1000 feet) and an operational duration of up to 16 hours, these vessels are equipped with advanced technology, including a forward-looking imaging sonar system and a 4K camera for underwater recording.

Our Services

We actively seek collaboration with marine companies, research institutions, and governmental agencies. Our expertise and the capabilities of the A-EX1 and A-EX2 are available to support various initiatives, including environmental monitoring and archaeological investigations.
